OUTLAW RACING SERIES #4, LORNE RESULTS
Last weekend was another great event at Outlaw # 4 Lorne, there were good numbers in the OC1 section even though we were missing a handful of Outlaw regulars.
The course started from Lorne Pt in glass-sheltered conditions and headed straight out past one of two cans. The first can was the OC Paddler Hot Spot with a prize of $50.00 for the 1st OC1 passed. (Well done, Garry Jones!)
The second can was Rip Curl, just out passed the Lorne pier. Competitors turned left around this can turning straight into the SW 2/3 ft ocean swell with 15 knot wind. The wind, waves and coarse direction did not falter for the next 8km with great bumps had by all.
Around another turning-can and close to the coast competitors had The Great Ocean Road on their right and headed back to the Peak Adventure start/finish. Then once more back out to sea, around the Rip curl can and straight back into the beach.
Paul Nottage made another back-to-back win in the Outlaw Open Men's with his Cook Island paddling partner, Jason Shepherd closing fast. It was great to see Chris McWaters (Muddy) back into racing as well.
It was good to have an international flavour with Paley competing from Sweden and winning the OC2. The Outlaw Encouragement Award was a new wetsuit from Rip Curl and went to first time Outlaw, James Fuda.
Yvonne, Outlaw legend, has no competition in the Masters Women's at the mo and is now towelling up the open girls and men. The Ocean Ski event had two current Australian marathon paddlers and plenty of ocean paddlers including Adam McKane from Queensland (last years Outlaw 25km downwind winner), and they all still got done by Outlaw’s Tim Altman.
